President Duterte to launch crackdown against Renato Reyes’ group BAYAN

Aside from New People’s Army (NPA), President Rodrigo Duterte is also planning to eliminate the left-leaning group Bagong Alayansang Makabayan (BAYAN) for conspiracy with communist movement.

BAYAN is led by Teddy Casino, Satur Ocampo, Liza Maza and Renato Reyes.

“Now it’s a great conspiracy between itong mga BAYAN, pati ano… We will study and maybe, we will have a crackdown here somewhere. Nagsasawa na ako dito sa kalokohan nila,” Duterte said.

BAYAN conducted a mass protest against President Duterte and other world leaders during the 31st ASEAN Summit in Manila that resulted to minor injuries between authorities and militants.

President Rodrigo Duterte explained that he’s going to proclaim NPA as terrorist organization for conducting violent activities in different parts of the Philippines.

He also mentioned the four month old baby killed during an NPA ambush, an evidence that the soon-to-be terrorist group is only fighting for themselves.

“I am tired of seeing properties destructed, equipment burned, and the killing of innocent people, and there’s even a four-month old (baby) involved,” Duterte said in Filipino.

“I’ll be issuing a proclamation. I’ll remove them from the category of a legal entity or at least a semi-movement which would merit our attention, placing them pareho sa amerika, terrorist,” he said.

In a statement, BAYAN secretary general Renato Reyes, that the problem between President Duterte and New People Army, could be addressed through peace talks.

“All the issues Duterte against the NPA are best addressed through the peace talks. He knows who he needs to talk to,” Reyes said.

In a text message, Reyes also said that the planned crackdown against them is a ‘Marcosian mindset’

“Duterte’s threat of a crackdown is intended to eliminate the most effective resistance to fascist dictatorship, human rights abuses, anti-people economic impositions and increased US intervention. Indeed we have seen this scenario before in our history,” he said.

“If that happens, it will be 1972 all over again. The people however will resist such a plan. Never again,” Reyes added.

The relationship between the government and militant groups went bitter after the two parties didn’t agreed with each other’s policies.

President Rodrigo Duterte also decided to end the peace talks between the CPP-NPA-NDF after the rebel group continued their offensive despite of the ceasefire between government forces and soon-to-be terrorist group.
